| Catahoula Hunting Dogs
Legend has it that the Louisiana Catahoula breed evolved in the swamps of Central Louisiana centuries ago as a result of red wolves mating with the fierce war dogs of the Spanish explorers. The first settlers to the area found this strange breed of dog with mottled spots and light eyes and called them Catahoula after the clear lake waters. The unique breed was found to very versatile in helping the settlers find and capture wild hogs, bobcat, bear and deer. The Catahoula's technique in trailing, winding, baying and herding was soon put to use gathering the settler's livestock. We use our Catahoulas to hunt wild boar and one could not hope for better hunting companions. We think you will agree after spending a day with them.
